Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has described the recent floods in Borno and other states as a “national calamity”, expressing deep concern over the widespread destruction caused by the relentless rainfall.
In a statement issued through his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, Buhari extended his sympathies to the affected regions and offered his condolences to families who have lost loved ones. He also expressed hope that relief efforts by federal and state governments would provide much-needed support to the affected communities.
The former president lamented the tragic impact of the floods, which have resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of homes and farmlands across the country. He urged swift recovery efforts to restore normalcy to the lives of those displaced.
The floods, which have devastated various parts of Nigeria, continue to wreak havoc, with communities struggling to recover from the devastation. Earlier today, the Palace of the Shehu of Borno and other parts of Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State, were submerged by floodwaters, prompting the Shehu to leave his palace for refuge at the Government House.
In response to the crisis, President Bola Tinubu has called for the immediate evacuation of residents in communities affected by the floods and directed relevant government agencies to expedite rescue efforts.
