Sodiq Oyedokun, a teenager suspected of being an armed robber, was arrested and paraded alongside 20 other alleged criminals by the Ondo State security outfit, Amotekun, in Akure. In a surprising twist, Oyedokun claimed that his traditional bulletproof and anti-arrest vest, which he inherited from his late father, a herbalist, failed to work as expected.
According to Oyedokun, the vest was supposed to make him “disappear” from crime scenes, but it didn’t work during his recent operation. He stated that this was the first time he had worn the vest during an operation, although he usually carried it with him when going out for criminal activities.
“I kept it in our house since it was given to me,” he said. “I don’t know why the vest failed me. I was expected to have disappeared and not arrested at the scene when the Amotekun personnel stormed the venue of the operation.”
The 20 other suspects paraded alongside Oyedokun include alleged kidnappers, armed robbers, and motorcycle snatchers who have been terrorizing the people of Ondo State in recent times. According to Adeleye, the leader of the Amotekun team, all suspects have been profiled and will be charged to court after thorough investigations.
