Kristina Joksimovic, a 38-year-old former Miss Switzerland finalist and model, was tragically found dead in February in Binningen, near Basel, Switzerland. Her husband, Thomas, a 41-year-old businessman, has been accused of dismembering her body using a jigsaw and garden shears.
According to reports, Kristina was strangled and then dismembered by her husband. The gruesome act was allegedly carried out with a jigsaw and garden shears, with her body parts being chopped up with a hand blender and dissolved in a chemical solution.
The couple had married in 2017 and had two children together. They lived in a spacious semi-detached house in an affluent area of Basel. Kristina had posted pictures of their “couple’s getaway” on her Instagram account just four weeks before her death.
Thomas initially claimed he had killed his wife in self-defense after she allegedly attacked him with a knife. However, he later admitted to the crime and was arrested a day after her remains were found.
An investigation has revealed that Thomas displayed a “conspicuously high level of criminal energy” and exhibited “sadistic-sociopathic traits”. The medical-forensic report also contradicts his claim of self-defense, suggesting that he showed a “lack of empathy and cold-bloodedness” after killing his wife.
The investigation has also uncovered evidence of mental illness underlying the case. Thomas’s appeal for release from custody was rejected by the Federal Court in Lausanne on Thursday.
Kristina had won the Miss Northwest Switzerland pageant in 2003 and was a finalist in the 2008 Miss Switzerland competition.
