The Lagos State Police Command has made a shocking discovery in the case of Ayomide Adeleye, who was arrested on September 1 for the murder of Christianah ldowu, a 21-year-old student of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta. Two days after Adeleye’s arrest, police detectives discovered a shallow grave containing ldowu’s body in his family’s compound.
ldowu, a 300-level student, had gone missing on August 19 after seeking shelter in Adeleye’s family shop in the Yaba area of Lagos. The suspect, who was a friend and church member of ldowu’s, confessed to killing her and sending a picture of her dead body to her mother, Rita Ozobia.
The search for ldowu ended when the military tracked Adeleye to his house and found her phone with him. Ozobia had earlier reported that Adeleye had deceived her about her daughter’s wellbeing and demanded N3 million ransom in exchange for her safe return.
The police visit to Adeleye’s compound on Saturday came after Ozobia’s appeal to bring out her daughter’s body and put her in a mortuary. The investigation is ongoing, but no further information has been released by the police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin.
