TTragedy struck in rural South Africa when seven members of the same family, including three children, were brutally killed in an execution-style attack in their home. The victims were found dead in their homestead in the Highflats area of KwaZulu-Natal province, approximately 80 kilometers northwest of Durban.
The victims included a 55-year-old woman, the eldest of the group, and a 5-year-old boy. According to police, the motive for the attack is still unknown, but they believe it was a planned and deliberate murder. “We are convinced as police that it was an execution. It was a planned murder,” said provincial police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
The gruesome details of the attack emerged as police investigators revealed that the gunmen burst into the house while the family was watching television. They ordered one member of the family, who was outside, to knock on the door, and then opened fire once it was opened. The victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds, with some appearing to have been shot in the head while lying on the floor. In total, around 25 bullets were used in the attack.
South Africa has a notoriously high homicide rate, with nearly 6,200 murders reported between April and June this year alone. This latest incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of violence and crime on innocent families and communities.
