A devastating three-storey building collapse in Ekosodin, an off-campus community predominantly inhabited by students of the University of Benin, has left several students trapped. The incident occurred on Saturday morning, shortly after a heavy downpour that began in the early hours of the day and persisted until around 10 am.

According to eyewitnesses, the university’s staff responded quickly to the distress call and are currently working to rescue those trapped. While some students have been successfully extracted from the rubble, others remain trapped, and the university is seeking additional assistance to ensure a swift and safe rescue operation.

The university’s management has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
