An assassination attempt on Henry Okojie, the federal lawmaker representing the Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State, has been foiled by security personnel. According to Okojie’s media aide, Michael Ihaza, the armed men, who were disguised as police officers, attacked the lawmaker at his residence.
The attackers, who arrived in a Lexus GX 470 with a Rivers State registration number (PHC 253 FF), claimed to be on an appointment and entered the seating room of the residence. However, their plan was thwarted by the security personnel attached to Okojie, who intervened and prevented the assassination attempt.
Two of the armed men fled the scene, leaving behind the driver and another accomplice. The two suspects are currently being interrogated by police officers from the Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Uromi. In a confessional statement, they revealed that they were sent on the mission by PDP leaders in Esan North East Local Government Area.
The incident occurred despite efforts to reach the Edo State Police Command for comments.
