Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Edo State governorship election, has expressed grave concerns over the integrity of the election, describing it as potentially the worst in Nigeria’s history. Speaking during a live press conference on Sunday, Ighodalo highlighted numerous alleged irregularities and electoral infractions across various polling units.
According to Ighodalo, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was responsible for many of these irregularities. He cited several examples of discrepancies, including instances where accredited voters were recorded as zero despite results being announced. For instance, in one polling unit in Ikpoba/Okha Ologbo, the figure for accredited voters was nil, yet the APC was declared to have received 227 votes, while the PDP received 103 votes.
“How is that even possible?” Ighodalo asked, emphasizing the absurdity of such an outcome. He also pointed out another instance where the number of accredited voters was 156, but the APC was declared to have won 2,110 votes, while the PDP received only 57 votes, with no votes recorded for the Labour Party.
Ighodalo’s statements underscored his deep concerns over the integrity of the election and his perception that it is heading towards being the worst in Nigeria’s history.
