Ayomide Adeleye, a 23-year-old philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University, has confessed to killing 18-year-old Christiana Idowu, a student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), and burying her in his parents’ home in Ikorodu. In an interview with Vanguard, Ayomide expressed remorse for his actions and revealed that he had been struggling with financial problems.
Ayomide met Christiana through church, where they had been members for three years. On the day of the incident, Christiana came to Ayomide’s home to ask him to repair her phone, which he had previously fixed for her. However, Ayomide discovered that the phone only had a battery problem and a faulty screen. He told Christiana that he needed to change the battery, but she refused, saying she just wanted to continue using the phone.
Ayomide confessed that he killed Christiana due to his financial struggles and a sense of desperation. He claimed that he strangled her while she was busy looking at his phone and then called her mother, claiming that she had been kidnapped and demanding a ransom.
Ayomide said that he took pictures of Christiana’s body and sent them to her mother, claiming that they were proof of his demands. He also claimed that he buried her body in a shallow grave in his parents’ compound and covered it with sand.
Ayomide expressed regret for his actions, saying that he tried to cut his wrist with a sharp object to try to bleed to death but was stopped by vigilant security agents. He also revealed that he was filled with thoughts about what he had done and didn’t close his eyes until daybreak after burying Christiana’s body.
