RE: JAC OF NAAT, NASU & SSANU OF OOU.
Sequel to the long and extensive meeting the Union Leaders held with the management where numerous issues affecting our members were discussed and ironed out ranging from results issues, hostels, refurbishing of lecture halls, transportation amidst other relevant things in preparation for resumption of our members.
It has come to the awareness of the leadership of the Union about an alleged/proposed protest action by JAC OF NAAT, NASU, SSANU OF OOU. The Union would like to state unequivocally that we are flaggabasted and amazed as to what could have led to the alleged/proposed protest scheduled to hold on 25th of September, 2024.
We believe the Students Union is a critical stakeholder in the university and that we should be properly carried along on the matter/issues that might lead to group of people protesting that might eventually lead to distruption of academic calendar.
Over the last one month, the union has been up and doing to ensure students are back safely on campus, which necessitated the Union having a very crucial meeting yesterday with the management.
We’d like to state clearly to the leadership of the aforementioned Union to schedule a meeting with the Students Union before demonstrating the last C of Aluta and immediately suspend the planned protest, because anything that will compromise our future by enlongating the calendar will be resisted
The University has been running a very smooth and uninterrupted academic calendar, the Union would like to reiterate that anything that will tamper with the academic calendar shall not be condoned.
We hereby urge the JAC OF OOU: NASU, NAAT, SSANU and other staff unions of OOU to embrace dialogue instead of confrontation as the Students Union will not fold its hands and allow the future of thousand of our students be jeopardized.
