The Nigerian Federal Government has placed on hold the officers in charge of the Maximum and Minimum Custodial Centres in Kirikiri, Lagos State, following an audio leak that suggests that convicted cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, was given a luxurious apartment outside the facility while serving a six-month sentence.
The Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Ja’afaru Ahmed, made the announcement in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday. The suspension of the officers is to enable further investigation into the allegations, which will be made public once concluded. The investigation was initiated by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Wednesday.
The suspended officers include Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kiri-kiri, Lagos State; Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections at the Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kiri-kiri, Lagos State; ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, who allegedly accompanied a convicted inmate out of the facility; and Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections at the MSCC in Kuje-Abuja, who allegedly received money on behalf of an inmate.
