University of Ilorin’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Celebrates Induction of 30 New Graduates Amidst Economic Challenges
On Monday, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ilorin held its sixth induction and oath-taking ceremony, welcoming 30 graduates from the 2022-2023 academic session. The event, themed “Thriving in Turbulent Times: Strategies for Veterinary Enterprises to Navigate Economic Challenges and Ensure Sustainable Growth,” featured the Veterinary Council of Nigeria’s president, AIG Aishatu Abubakar-Baju, represented by Acting Registrar Dr. Oladotun Fadipe, who urged the new veterinarians to stay focused and uphold the integrity of their profession.
Dr. Puspa Ramloo, Managing Director of House of Pluto Lagos and keynote speaker, encouraged the graduates to continue seeking knowledge and experience in their ongoing development. “As a graduate, don’t assume you know everything. Embrace learning and strive to avoid significant mistakes early on,” he advised. “We veterinarians are dedicated to our patients and animal welfare, and I challenge you to become exemplary veterinarians who shape the future of Nigeria.”
Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN), Vice-Chancellor of the university, emphasized the need for graduates to harness technology and improve their practical and soft skills. He highlighted the growing public health concerns stemming from animals, urging the new professionals to consider how they can make a meaningful impact on public health and safety.
In his address, Professor Mistura O. Azeez, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, reminded the inductees of their vital role in public health and animal care. He encouraged them to stay informed about advancements in diagnostics and treatments, emphasizing the importance of lifelong learning in a dynamic field shaped by new technologies and discoveries. “Your work will have significant implications for both animal health and human safety,” he concluded.
