The Ogun State police have confirmed the tragic death of an 80-year-old woman, Mariam Salako, in a fire that broke out on Saturday at 28 Ifelodun Ago Ka area in Abeokuta. SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the command, released a statement confirming the incident. She reported that a distress call was made to the Area Commander about a building engulfed in flames in the Ago Ka area.The fire occurred around 1:00 a.m., and the cause is currently under investigation. “Around 1:00 a.m., we received a distress call regarding a fire at No. 28 Ifelodun Ago Ka area in Abeokuta. The Area Commander promptly led a team of officers to the scene, and the fire service was alerted for assistance. The Ogun State Fire Service responded quickly and was able to control the blaze,” Odutola stated.Tragically, Mariam Salako was unable to escape and lost her life in the incident. However, a man identified as Baba Ali, whose age has not yet been disclosed, was rescued through a window by local residents while he slept during the fire.The remains of the deceased have been taken to the morgue for further processing.
