The Police Command in Imo has announced the detention of 17-year-old Jesse Chidebere, a student at Imo State University (IMSU), for allegedly faking her abduction and death.ASP Henry Okoye, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, shared this information in a statement released in Owerri and made accessible to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday.Okoye highlighted that the fabricated incident caused significant distress to both Chidebere’s family and the university community.The statement noted: “On October 26, at around 10:00 p.m., police received a distress call from worried citizens reporting that Chidebere was missing.“A message from her WhatsApp account claimed that she had been abducted and killed, urging her family to visit the Orji Police Station for confirmation.“In response, police operatives initiated a search and discovered the following morning, October 27, that Chidebere was alive and had concocted the story as a prank for social media.”The PPRO mentioned that an investigation is underway to determine her motives for the action, and she will face prosecution.Additionally, Commissioner of Police Mr. Aboki Danjuma expressed concern about the “irresponsible behavior that wasted valuable resources and induced public panic.”He urged parents to advise their children against participating in dangerous pranks and spreading false information.“The command is dedicated to combating misinformation and ensuring a safe environment for everyone in the state,” he emphasized.
