Governor of Ogun State

Dear Governor Dapo Abiodun,I am compelled to write this open letter to voice my profound concerns regarding the state of governance in Ogun State under your leadership. It has become increasingly clear that your administration is veering away from the principles of democracy and good governance that we, as citizens, rightfully expect from our leaders. The recent detention of Gafar Asaolu serves as a disheartening example of the measures you have implemented to stifle dissent. Such actions, aimed at silencing opposing voices—particularly those in opposition to your administration—raise serious alarms about the state of democratic rights in Ogun State. Democracy thrives on the ability of its citizens to express a full spectrum of opinions, including dissenting views. By suppressing opposition, you are eroding individual rights and undermining the democratic fabric of our state.Your approach is reminiscent of autocratic leadership rather than the accountability essential to a thriving democracy. Silencing opposing voices, especially from supporters of Ladi Adebutu, is not a viable solution to the challenges facing Ogun State. Such tactics reflect a worrying trend towards tyranny, which stands in stark contrast to democratic ideals.Additionally, your administration’s failure to prioritize the welfare of the people, coupled with alarming reports of embezzlement and mismanagement of state resources, signifies a grave betrayal of the trust placed in you by the citizens of Ogun State. It is well-documented that funds intended for the development of our state have been misappropriated, and the stagnation in critical areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education only underscores this failure. The citizens of Ogun State have endured inadequate leadership while the state’s resources are misappropriated, leaving behind a legacy of unfulfilled promises and neglected projects.Rather than confronting these pressing issues, your response seems to focus on discrediting and attacking those who dare to challenge your governance. This is not just an ineffective form of leadership; it is a disservice to the very people who look to you for solutions and progress, not repression.Governor Abiodun, the citizens of Ogun State deserve better. We deserve a leader committed to transparency, accountability, and genuine progress—one who does not wield power to silence voices that could foster positive change. It is high time you reconsider your approach. Release Gafar Asaolu, foster an environment for free and fair political expression, and, most importantly, prioritize the welfare of the people above personal interests. The citizens of Ogun State will not be silenced, and we will steadfastly continue to advocate for the leadership we rightfully deserve.Sincerely, Korede Oladepo
