Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, announced the arrest of the alleged murderer of former permanent secretary Adamu Jagaba, along with the stolen vehicle. In an interview with , Abiodun revealed that the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Fatiyah Abdulhakeem, was apprehended on Sunday and has confessed to the crime.
He disclosed that Abdulhakeem conspired with several of Jagaba’s employees to execute the murder.Abiodun stated, “On the same day, around 7 PM, following the distribution of the vehicle’s details to all police stations in the state, the Police Crack Squad intercepted the vehicle along Bosso Estate Road in Minna, arresting the suspect, Fatiyah Abdulhakeem, who hails from Tayi Village near Bosso in Minna.“During questioning, the suspect admitted to being the victim’s car painter and indicated that he had visited Jagaba at his block industry on the Eastern Bye-pass in Maitumbi, near the PDP Secretariat in Minna. “He detailed how, after discussing repairs to the vehicle’s bumper, he intentionally stabbed Jagaba multiple times in the head and neck, struck him with a stapler in his office, and then took off with his Toyota Camry, registration number MNA 61 AE.“Further questioning revealed that he had conspired with some of the victim’s employees, who provided him with information and the necessary details to carry out the act. He indicated he has other accomplices engaged in similar criminal activities and mentioned their names for further investigation.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend these individuals, and the suspect will be prosecuted once the investigation is complete,” Abiodun explained.Adamu Jagaba, who recently retired from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, also owned a block molding business on the Eastern Bye-pass in Minna. On the day of his murder, he had invited Abdulhakeem, the panel beater, to inspect his car, which was experiencing mechanical issues. Eyewitness Nuhu Abubakar told PUNCH Metro that there was no argument between Jagaba and the panel beater before the attack. “The incident happened on Saturday.
The panel beater had come to the block industry to fix the car. There was no prior dispute. Suddenly, the panel beater stabbed Jagaba in the head and drove off with the vehicle while the victim lay bleeding and in agony,” Abubakar recounted.Earlier, Abiodun had confirmed that the police were looking into the homicide. “On December 7, 2024, at 3 PM, a report of culpable homicide was filed at the Tudun-Wada Division, stating that around 11:30 AM, an unidentified individual entered the block industry on the Eastern Bye-pass, Minna, attacked and fatally stabbed Adamu Jagaba, subsequently fleeing with his vehicle. The victim was taken to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries,” he said.
