In preparation for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced an important update regarding the examination’s reading text.

The previous text, Life Changer, has been replaced with “Lekki Headmaster,” a novel penned by Nigerian author Kabir Alabi Garba.

This change is part of JAMB’s commitment to introduce engaging and contemporary reading materials that reflect the experiences of Nigerian students while promoting local literature.Lekki Headmaster presents an intriguing narrative set against the vibrant backdrop of Lekki, Lagos. It chronicles the challenges faced by a committed school headmaster as he strives to enhance education and elevate his community.

Through its exploration of themes such as leadership, education, and the effects of societal transformation, the novel offers a captivating and intellectually stimulating experience for students. Its setting in a rapidly evolving area of Lagos allows readers to engage with pressing issues like urbanization, social change, and the dynamics of the Nigerian educational system.

Oluwafunmibi Awoyale, an English Literature teacher, stated, JAMB’s selection reflects the board’s ambition to provide students with a reading experience that is both relatable and enriching.

The themes of leadership, education, and societal transformation resonate with the current realities, and the contemporary context of Lekki makes it relevant and educationally significant for students.
