The 36-year-old retired from professional football in 2021 and transitioned to fishing.As reported by the Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Noticias, Coentrao owns three fishing boats and rented a warehouse seven months ago to launch a seafood business.

On Thursday, health authorities announced the closure of three illegal warehouses in northern Portugal, resulting in the seizure of 17 tonnes of food products.One of these facilities was identified as a shellfish farm owned by Coentrao, according to an Asae spokesperson who spoke with AFP.

Jornal de Noticias noted that on Wednesday, inspectors visited Coentrao’s warehouse in the northern fishing port of Póvoa de Varzim, where they found 12 seawater tanks filled with lobsters and prawns.

In total, authorities seized over a tonne of shellfish due to various irregularities, including missing invoices and the absence of a trading license.

Born in the coastal town of Vila do Conde, Coentrao earned 52 international caps for Portugal and won two Champions League titles during his tenure at Real Madrid.
