A cholera outbreak has been declared in Emeroke community, Eastern Obolo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. To mitigate the outbreak, the State Epidemiologist has been deployed to the community to initiate enlightenment campaigns.

Key precautions include:

1. Practicing proper handwashing, especially after defecation.

2. Boiling drinking water before consumption.

3. Seeking immediate medical attention if individuals experience symptoms such as diarrhea or vomiting.

The government is enforcing a ban on open defecation and working on long-term solutions while mobilizing short-term relief supplies.

The Chairman of Eastern Obolo Local Government Council, Samuel Nteogwuijah, has assured the community of a coordinated effort to combat the outbreak. Plans are underway for the local government to collaborate with the state government and relevant agencies to contain the spread of the disease.

The community’s gratitude is extended to Governor Umo Eno for his swift intervention in directing the Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies to provide urgent assistance.
