On Thursday, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources sealed a construction site for improper storage of materials that obstructed the drainage system.During an inspection of various projects across Lagos Island and nearby areas, Commissioner Mr. Tokunbo Wahab issued the sealing order after expressing disapproval of the site activities.Wahab noted that the materials piled up were blocking the drainage system, necessitating the closure of the site.
The sealed building is located at No. 109 Alakoro Street, Lagos Island. Wahab stated, “They are stacking their materials on the road and in our drainage system.
This practice is not permissible as it hampers the drainage flow.”He explained that notices would be served to the construction team, requiring them to remove the materials and clear the drainage before the site could be unsealed.Commenting on the inspection visit, Wahab emphasized it was part of efforts to regenerate the area.
This is our second or third inspection of this particular section of Lagos Island,” he said. “The state government, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is committed to revitalizing the Lagos Island drainage and road infrastructure.
However, we observed some critical areas not included in the plan that are essential for reducing flooding.”Wahab expressed disappointment that individuals had built on critical drainage collectors, making maintenance challenging.
It is disheartening to see structures violating these infrastructures, undermining our ability to maintain them,” he said. “Our first step is to issue notices, and we plan to return by the weekend to assess compliance. We will not allow any
