Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele has appealed to the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja to bar the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from bringing additional witnesses in his ongoing trial for procurement fraud.Emefiele’s lead counsel, Matthew Burkaa (SAN), argued on Monday that since the EFCC initially identified only 10 witnesses in its evidence submission, introducing more witnesses at this stage would be inappropriate.
In response, the EFCC’s prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), countered that additional testimonies were essential to ensure a just and comprehensive trial.
The EFCC, represented by Oyedepo, submitted various exhibits concerning the bidding processes for 45 contracts linked to April 1616, RT Briscoe, and Globe Motors. Nonetheless, Gana asserted that April 1616 was awarded the contracts due to its submission of the lowest bids.
