The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Delta State has denied allegations that its officers are releasing inmates from the Okere prison to participate in robbery operations, known as “Omila operation”, and then returning them to the facility.
The rumors, which have been circulating on social media, claim that prison wardens at the Medium Security Custodial Centres in Warri are involved in this illicit activity. However, the NCoS Delta State Command has issued a statement describing the report as “false, unpatriotic, and a vile figment of the imagination” of the writer.
The statement, signed by Public Relations Officer SC. Allen Illoba, emphasized that the allegations are entirely fabricated and intended to tarnish the reputation of the NCoS. Illoba noted that inmates on death row are not allowed to leave the facility under any circumstances, let alone participate in robbery operations.
The NCoS attributed the false report to the ignorance of the writer, who is believed to be behind the faceless Facebook account Warri Aproko II”.
The account has no verifiable contact information and is known for posting unconfirmed stories.
The NCoS Delta State Command urged media outlets to verify their stories before publishing, and assured the public that its officers are committed to upholding justice and reforming, rehabilitating, and reintegrating inmates into society upon completion of their sentences.
