Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has honored the top three graduating students of Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences in Ilese-Ijebu with a cash reward of N2.5 million each at the institution’s 3rd combined convocation ceremony held on Thursday.
The recipients of this generous award include Famuyewa Aminat from the Dental Technology department, who achieved the highest CGPA of 3.75 for the 2021/2022 academic year; Rasak Temilola, who graduated with a CGPA of 3.68 in Health Information Management, making him the top student of the 2022/2023 session; and Kanyinsola Salami, who excelled with a CGPA of 3.94 in Environmental Health Technology, securing the title of overall best for the 2023/2024 session.
Salami is also recognized as the best overall graduate for this third combined convocation.Governor Abiodun, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Secondary Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, announced the cash rewards during his address at the ceremony.
He emphasized that this initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to fostering an environment that promotes academic excellence.In his speech, the governor commended the institution’s management for its continuous progress despite its relatively recent establishment, affirming that the state government is dedicated to further investing in the education sector to provide necessary resources that facilitate student success.
Education is the foundation of any society, and we will persist in ensuring our students access quality education,” he stated. He further encouraged the graduates to contribute positively to the advancement of the health sector, providing impactful services that enhance national well-being.Dr. Rasaki Akinbo, the Rector of the institution, shared insights into its significant improvements since being upgraded to a polytechnic in 2023.
He noted that as Nigeria’s first Polytechnic of Health, it aims to be a leader in health and allied sciences education. Akinbo expressed deep gratitude to the governor for his visionary leadership and support, which has led to transformative growth, including the accreditation of 11 new programs and the re-accreditation of five existing courses.
He highlighted key achievements, such as the completion of the Medical Laboratory Technician and Health Information Management buildings, renovations of hostels, and ongoing upgrades to the institution’s ICT center. Akinbo also mentioned the successful design of the institution’s Master Plan, which is currently being implemented.
The Chairman of the Governing Council, Kunle Kakejaiye, urged further state government support for the institution’s infrastructure development, specifically calling for the urgent paving of internal roads and additional funding for the polytechnic.
