Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has honored the memory of Assistant Superintendent Aminu Sahabi, who was tragically killed in the line of duty, by posthumously awarding him for his bravery.
This announcement was made during a condolence visit to Sahabi’s family on February 7, 2025, in the Gawon Nama area of Sokoto metropolis, Sokoto State. Sahabi lost his life on January 17, 2025, in Awka, Anambra State, while on an official assignment aimed at apprehending suspects involved in internet fraud.
Accompanied by the Director of Finance and Accounts, Ahmed Pate, and the Acting Director of the Sokoto Zonal Directorate, Nwanneka Nwokike, among other management staff, Olukoyede expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, assuring them that the EFCC shares in their grief.
He remarked, “As a commission, we mourn the loss of Aminu, a gallant officer full of promise, who devoted himself to serving his country.
Though we face this painful reality, we must accept that it is the Lord who determines our time.”Olukoyede emphasized the commission’s commitment to ensuring that those responsible for Sahabi’s murder face justice.
His sacrifice will never be forgotten, and those accused of this heinous crime will not escape the full wrath of the law,” he affirmed.
He offered words of comfort, stating, “While nothing can replace the loss of a loved one, we find solace in knowing that Allah’s timing is beyond our understanding.
Let us continue to pray for his soul.”In addition to the posthumous award for bravery, Olukoyede presented a condolence letter on behalf of the EFCC and the Federal Government to Sahabi’s family.
He assured them that they would not be forgotten, promising to visit them regularly and confirming that processing of the late officer’s benefits was underway and would be promptly delivered to his next of kin.Speaking on behalf of the family, Justice Mohammed Shuaibu expressed gratitude to the chairman and his team for their support during this difficult time.
He acknowledged the EFCC’s efforts in arranging for the repatriation of Sahabi’s body for burial and noted the significance of having a building at the EFCC Academy, Abuja, named in his honor.Upon concluding his visit to the family, Olukoyede inspected a guard of honor at the EFCC’s Sokoto Zonal Directorate and held discussions with agency officers.
