UCH Patients Allegedly Bring Generators And Alternative Power Sources To Cope With The Hospital’s Four-Month Blackout Caused By Its N495 Million Debt.
Patients at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan are facing significant challenges due to a four-month power outage that has severely impacted medical services.
The blackout, resulting from the hospital’s disconnection from the national grid due to a ₦495 million debt to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), has left critical units without reliable electricity.
During a recent visit, relatives of patients in the ICU were seen using handheld and rechargeable fans to cope with the unbearable heat. Unfortunately, many hospital wards remain in darkness, raising serious concerns for patients who depend on life-saving equipment.
A relative of an ICU patient, identified as Kazeem, shared that the situation has deteriorated over the past three months. Since Thursday, when the generator serving the ICU broke down, there has been no power supply.
