In a recent interview with residents of Osun State regarding the upcoming election, the Grassroots Governance Initiative for Sustainability (GGlS) chose to conduct a random interview to gauge the residents’ readiness for the imminent election in a few days.
It was observed that the residents are not only interested in the current political landscape but also in past leaders, notably one former Governor who, despite being initially favored, has ended up disappointing many through his activities across various platforms to garner support for his ambitions – transitioning from a familiar political party, where he and others had been approved to be used in fighting presidential election to another political party, which is relatively unknown party.Residents expressed their sentiments, stating, _”When individuals attain positions of power, they sometimes perceive themselves as semi-gods, ultimately forgetting the people who facilitated their rise to power people who contributed in making them.
However, they fail to realize that someday, they will require this same support again.
The time has come for our amiable former Governor of Osun State to recognize this reality.
Reports indicate that this once esteemed former governor has resorted to compensating individuals to attend his meetings, attracting individuals seeking financial gain who make empty promises of allegiance.
This unfortunate scenario is reflected among powerful figures seeking a return to power after previously disappointing those who elevated them.”_Further elaborating on the issue, it was emphasized that the insatiable thirst for power among many politicians is alarming. Without the proper measures to remind these politicians that without the people and those who contributed to their ambitions, they hold no significance, there is a risk of being misled by self-serving interests rather than the well-being of the populace.
The eagerness of certain political leaders to align themselves with influential individuals solely to achieve their power goals was highlighted as a major concern.
A call was made to fellow residents to exercise their power through voting and to desist from following confused leaders driven solely by the pursuit of power at any cost.
