The National Association of Nigerian Students, Oyo State Axis understand the Leadership of Comrade TIAMIYU Taiwo Ademola therefore demanded the immediate removal of data tarrif announced recently by MTN NG.
In a letter dated February 15th, 2025, a copy of which was obtained from the Chief Press Secretary, Com. Ojo Olabisi Yusuff Astute Valuer in Ibadan on Monday Morning describe this move as “completely unacceptable.”
According to him, he said the Tarrif Hike is tantamount to shaving a man’s head and still pulling air vigorously on it.
We are expressing our deep concern and outright discontent over the hike. The National Association of Nigerian Students as the apex student body in Oyo State representing Millions students within the State, will not stand idly by while critical decision is affecting our member.
It is highly insensitive and unacceptable that at a time when students are battling with increased tuition fees, high cost of living, and economic instability, MTN and other telcos choose to impose such a drastic increase in data tariffs. A clear example of this exploitation is the recent increase in the MTN 15GB Weekly Plan, which jumped from ₦2,000 to ₦6,000, reflecting a 200% increase. This move is nothing but corporate extortion, driven by greed rather than any genuine economic justification. We refuse to stand by while students, the largest consumers of telecom services, are subjected to such exploitation.
We are demanding not requesting, the immediate removal of the hike in shortest possible time.
Failure to accommodate this legitimate and reasonable demand will result in total shutdown of MTN offices by Nigerian Students most especially the one at Mobile Ring Road, Idi Ape Ibadan. NANS will mobilize en masse to ensure that no activities holds unless our demand is secured.
This is not an appeal; it’s a final warning. Nigerian Students have exercise patience, we refuse to be spectators in matters that directly affect our education, and welfare.
No reverse, total shutdown.
No retreat No surrender
