A Nigerian national was fatally injured in a violent clash at a chicken market in Bellahalli, Bagalur, India, following allegations of suspicious activity, according to police reports released on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Adiyako Masaliyo, who had reportedly gone to the market accompanied by an associate when he was confronted by Yasin Khan, a shop worker.Khan accused Masaliyo of being a drug dealer, which led to a confrontation that quickly escalated. As per police accounts, Masaliyo allegedly attacked Khan and seized a knife from the shop, threatening him with it. In retaliation, Khan struck Masaliyo on the head with a wooden reaper. Masaliyo sustained serious head injuries and attempted to flee the scene but collapsed shortly afterward.
He was later declared dead.Investigators reported finding no drugs or suspicious items on Masaliyo, and there were no prior criminal records associated with him.
Khan has since been arrested and charged with murder as the investigation continues.“We have filed a murder case and apprehended the suspect,” stated a police officer.
The Nigerian embassy in India has been notified about the incident.
This case has raised concerns among the Nigerian community, with some suggesting it reflects racial profiling and violence against African nationals in India.
