A tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway near Ayetoro on Monday resulted in the deaths of nine individuals and left three others injured.
The incident, which occurred around 5:30 AM, involved a Toyota bus with license plate UYY165ZY colliding with a stationary truck identified by registration number DKA244XC. According to Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the bus driver reportedly lost control, leading to the collision with the parked truck.
In her statement to the media, Okpe detailed that, “The fatal crash occurred in the early hours this morning at approximately 5:30 AM on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in the Ayetoro area.
A total of 13 people were involved, consisting of 10 male adults and three female adults, with nine fatalities reported—six males and three females.
Three others sustained injuries.”She noted that excessive speed and driver fatigue are suspected factors contributing to the accident, resulting in the driver losing control and crashing into the truck.
The injured victims were transported to Famobis Hospital in Mowe, while the deceased were taken to Idera morgue in Sagamu.
The Sector Commander expressed deep concern over the reckless behavior of some drivers, highlighting the failure to adhere to speed limits and to take mandatory 15-minute breaks after four hours of driving.
He extended his condolences to the families of the victims and encouraged them to reach out to the Mowe unit Command for further details regarding the incident.
