.A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has summoned controversial blogger Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, over allegations of criminal defamation against gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.
In a summons issued on March 5, 2025, the court has ordered VDM to appear in person on March 13, 2025, to address the claims raised by Chinwo.Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna issued the directive in response to allegations that the blogger made disparaging statements about the singer on social media.
The dispute arises from VDM’s online posts in which he accused Chinwo of misappropriating $345,000 purportedly linked to her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, also known as Eezee Tee.Chinwo has strongly refuted these claims, providing emails, receipts, and other documents to substantiate her defense.In a criminal complaint filed by her legal representative, Pelumi Olajengbesi of Law Corridor, Chinwo contends that VDM’s actions contravene Sections 391 of the Penal Code and Section 24(1)(B) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015.
In addition to the criminal charges, Chinwo has initiated a defamation lawsuit for N1.1 billion against VDM in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
This lawsuit seeks an order that would require VDM to remove all alleged defamatory content, issue a public apology, and retract his statements.Additionally, a separate case involving Eezee Tee is still pending before the Federal High Court in Lagos. On February 17, 2025, this court upheld an existing arrest warrant against the record label executive over claims of fraudulent conversion, with his arraignment scheduled for March 6, 2025.Chinwo’s legal team asserts that VDM’s social media posts, published on February 2, 3, 4, 5, 12, and 17, were designed to damage the singer’s reputation and mislead the public.
They argue that these false allegations have inflicted significant harm on their client’s reputation, hindered her career, and caused emotional distress.With the court summons now issued, attention will turn
