Gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has initiated a N1.1 billion defamation lawsuit against blogger Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The lawsuit stems from social media posts made by the blogger, in which he made false accusations against Chinwo regarding a contractual dispute and an alleged $345,000 diversion tied to her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, also known as EeZee Tee.Chinwo’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, filed the suit, which seeks to compel the blogger to delete the defamatory posts, retract his statements, and issue a public apology both on social media and in national newspapers.
To support her claims, Chinwo has provided documentary evidence, including emails and payment receipts, asserting that the allegations are unfounded.
The lawsuit highlights that the blogger’s posts, made between February 2 and 17, 2025, accused Chinwo of engaging in secret financial dealings and manipulating legal situations for strategic advantages.
The filings argue that these posts were crafted to damage her reputation and emotional well-being.Chinwo is demanding not only the removal of the offensive content and retraction of statements but also an apology published in two major national newspapers and a subsequent apology in four national dailies for 14 consecutive days. In total, she is seeking N1 billion in general damages for defamation, alongside additional claims for punitive damages and legal costs, with a 10 percent annual interest rate on the judgment amount until fully paid.
This lawsuit arises amidst an ongoing legal issue involving EeZee Tee, who currently faces an arrest warrant upheld by a Federal High Court in Lagos for alleged fraud. Chinwo asserts that she is not involved in this legal matter but contends that the blogger’s misrepresentation is intended to harm her reputation.
