Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed reports claiming that the Court of Appeal in Akure has reinstated the local council chairmen and councillors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) who were removed from office.
He labeled the information as false.During discussions with the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers in Osogbo, Governor Adeleke clarified that the APC officials, who are asserting their presence in all local council secretariats, are still dismissed as per a Federal High Court order from October 2022, issued while his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, was still in power.
He affirmed his commitment to the rule of law, vowing to ensure the removal of these “illegal occupants” from the council offices.Adeleke accused the APC of harboring intentions to incite unrest within the state, suggesting that the party’s “malicious agenda” involves attempting to usurp the council secretariats based on a Court of Appeal ruling lacking any orders for reinstatement of the dismissed council leaders.
He urged traditional rulers to help disseminate accurate information regarding the ongoing disputes, stating, “We must not allow fake news to be used as a weapon to harm our beloved state.
In response, the APC, through its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, accused Governor Adeleke of disrespecting the appellate court’s judgment that reportedly reinstated the APC council chairmen and councillors on February 10, 2025.
The party also alleged that Adeleke is misusing judicial processes and is behind legal actions initiated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding the local government elections held on February 22.Additionally, the Osun APC criticized the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), claiming that it has improperly engaged in political matters, siding with the allegedly unlawfully elected council leaders who lack legal recognition following the Court of Appeal’s February 10, 2025, ruling.
