The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reported that over N50 billion recovered from fraudsters in 2024 was allocated to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), established by the Students Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act, signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in April 2023.
This initiative aims to eliminate financial barriers to higher education in Nigeria.In its 2024 statistics, the EFCC celebrated its highest single-year asset recovery since its inception in 2003, totaling N364.6 billion and various foreign currencies.

The recovered assets included luxury properties, vehicles, and cryptocurrencies, contributing to significant government reinvestments for public welfare.The EFCC also achieved a record 4,111 convictions in 2024, with the Lagos Zonal Directorate leading in case resolutions.
The commission’s success is attributed to dedicated officers and support from stakeholders, as it tackled crimes such as Advance Fee Fraud and Cybercrime across Nigeria.Overall, the EFCC’s recoveries and initiatives have played a vital role in enhancing public welfare and supporting Nigeria’s developmental goals.
