Dr. Abdulwahab Oyedokun, the Director of Legal Services at the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), testified on Monday at the National Industrial Court in Abuja, asserting that the dismissal of former deputy director Yisa Usman adhered to proper legal procedures.
This statement was made during cross-examination by Usman’s attorney, Mohammed Shuaibu, in a case where Usman is suing JAMB for N150 million, claiming his dismissal was unlawful due to an irregularly composed Disciplinary Committee, which he argues violated JAMB’s Staff Manual and his right to a fair hearing.
Usman is seeking a court declaration that his dismissal is null and void and attempted to introduce 33 documents as evidence. The court accepted these documents, labeled as Exhibits D-1 to D-33, without objection from Usman’s counsel.During his testimony, Oyedokun presented certified documents that detailed the investigation timeline into Usman’s alleged misconduct.
These documents included reports from the Disciplinary Committee and findings from external investigations.In cross-examination, Oyedokun acknowledged that while the committee composition should reflect federal representation, a governing board circular was deemed to take precedence over the JAMB Staff Manual.
He maintained that JAMB management legally constituted the committee and that the dismissal was executed in good faith. Notably, some committee members recused themselves to ensure fairness due to Usman’s complaints against them.
After Oyedokun’s testimony, JAMB’s defense was closed, and the court adjourned the case until May 28, 2025, for final address submissions from both sides.
