Obinna Simon, widely recognized as MC Tagwaye—an accomplished entertainer, entrepreneur, politician, and advocate for youth—has officially left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In an announcement made on Friday morning in Abuja, Tagwaye revealed that his decision followed months of careful reflection and consultation.
Having served on the presidential campaign team during the recent elections, Tagwaye expressed that this pivotal choice stems from his strong belief that the APC has strayed from its founding principles and is failing to prioritize the well-being and advancement of the Nigerian populace.

He cited significant issues within the party, including a lack of a reward system for dedicated members, an aging leadership structure, and policies that exacerbate the struggles of low-income individuals, which ultimately led to his decision to resign.“Moreover, the internal democracy of the APC has become severely compromised, with a select few power brokers steering the party while sidelining the voices and aspirations of the majority,” Tagwaye stated. In contrast, he highlighted that the SDP stands as a symbol of hope, emphasizing its commitment to youth engagement, internal democracy, transparency, and accountability.
The party’s vision for a new Nigeria, focused on the welfare and progress of all citizens, aligns closely with his beliefs.“I have formally tendered my resignation to my local APC ward chairman, thus marking the end of my time with the party.
I am excited to join the SDP and contribute to its mission of fostering a better Nigeria for everyone.“I invite all Nigerians who share my vision to embark on this journey with me. Together, we can build a brighter future for ourselves, our children, and our great nation.”
