The Nigerian Federal Government has characterized reports alleging targeted killings of Christians in the country as misleading and inaccurate.In a statement released on Friday, Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that these reports appear to be a strategic effort to sway foreign governments—especially the United States—into designating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC).
Ebienfa emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is dedicated to safeguarding all Nigerians, regardless of their religion, gender, or ethnicity.
He remarked, “It is important to highlight that most incidents of insurgency and banditry in the predominantly Muslim northern regions of Nigeria are not directed at any specific faith or religion.
Nigeria is a diverse nation with multiple ethnic and religious groups, and the government is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, irrespective of their faith, ethnicity, or gender.
The security challenges in Nigeria are intricate and multifaceted, manifesting as criminal activity, terrorism, and communal conflicts—such as farmer-herder disputes—that are not rooted in religious issues,” Ebienfa explained.
