An unidentified woman who jumped into the Lagos lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge was later found dead. According to an eyewitness, the incident took place around 4 p.m. at a location near the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront on the bridge.
Marine police officers stationed in the area responded quickly to the emergency and were able to recover her body, despite their rescue efforts. While the exact circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear, some witnesses speculate it may have been a suicide.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the incident on Friday.
He stated that although the marine police worked diligently to save her, UNILAG medical personnel confirmed her death upon arrival.
Hundeyin also noted that the woman’s body has been transported to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for preservation.In his statement, he elaborated, “Today, March 13, 2025, at around 1600 hours, an unidentified woman reportedly jumped from the Third Mainland Bridge into the water near the UNILAG waterfront at approximately 1500 hours. She was recovered at the University of Lagos slipway by marine police officers stationed nearby. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, she was confirmed dead by UNILAG medical staff, with officers from the Sabo Police Division present.”He added, “Her body has been taken to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba, Lagos, for preservation.”
