The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in Ghana has apprehended a suspected Nigerian drug kingpin, Uchechukwu Chima, during an intelligence-led operation at his hideout in Accra.
The 56-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, after authorities uncovered 192 kg of cocaine and 0.42 kg of heroin, with an estimated street value of $2.1 million.Francis Amoah, the acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations at NACOC, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Wednesday, March 19.
The statement indicated that field tests confirmed the seized substances as cocaine and heroin.Authorities believe Chima has been a significant figure in past drug-related seizures and arrests in Ghana.
The statement read, “An intelligence-led operation by NACOC on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, led to the capture of 56-year-old Nigerian Uchechukwu Chima in Oyarifa, a suburb of Accra.“During a search at the suspect’s hideout, NACOC agents discovered substances suspected to be narcotics. Field tests on these substances returned positive results for cocaine and heroin.
The total seizure included approximately 192 kg of cocaine and 0.42 kg of heroin, valued at around $2.1 million.“The suspect, Uchechukwu Chima, has been a person of interest for NACOC for some time and is believed to be behind several previous drug seizures and arrests.
This operation has successfully removed a substantial quantity of drugs from the streets, potentially saving countless lives from the dangers of substance abuse.“NACOC is dedicated to making Ghana an unappealing destination for drug trafficking, thus safeguarding the safety and welfare of all Ghanaians and the international community.”
