Five students from Osun State University in Osogbo tragically lost their lives in a devastating accident on the Ife-Ibadan Expressway, while another five sustained injuries.
The university management verified this tragic incident through a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, on Monday.
According to reports from the Nigeria Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps, the accident occurred near the Balogun area of Ikire when a bus from Ibadan collided head-on with an 18-passenger bus traveling from Osogbo. Adesoji indicated that emergency responders confirmed a total of ten fatalities resulting from this unfortunate event.
In response to the calamity, the university management dispatched a team to the accident scene to assist and support any students involved.
Among the injured is Olagbemide Damilola, a second-year student of Medicine and Surgery, who is currently receiving medical treatment.

The university expressed deep sorrow over the loss of its students and committed to providing the necessary moral and logistical support to the families affected, including help with funeral arrangements.
The statement noted that this tragic incident has significantly impacted the university community, and it urged students, staff, and all members of the institution to remain united and supportive during this challenging period.
The university management voiced their heartfelt condolences to the grieving families, offering prayers for strength and solace as they navigate this time of mourning.
