NANS ZONE F COMMENDS HIS HISTORIC VISIT TO ABSU
The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone F (South-East) proudly commends His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, Governor of Abia State, for his historic and surprise visit to Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) on Sunday, March 23, 2025.
This visit, though unannounced, underscores the Governor’s deep commitment to education and the student community, proving once again that he is truly a Students’ Governor. For too long, students have endured deplorable hostel conditions, but Governor Otti has stepped in—not just to assess the situation, but to act.
During his tour of the university, Governor Otti expressed disappointment at the poor state of the students’ hostels and, without hesitation, mandated their immediate renovation. In his words, “I feel so sad to see the condition of the hostels where you live.
But for those of you who still manage to achieve success despite these conditions, I congratulate you.
A Governor Who Delivers on Promises Not only did the governor apologize to the students for the years of neglect by past administrations, but he also made a bold commitment to:
✅ Renovate existing hostels immediately
✅ Build a new 5,000-capacity hostel
✅ Ensure steady water and electricity supply in the hostels
✅ Construct functional cafeterias within 3 months to enhance student welfare
His Excellency also gave a direct mandate to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo, stating that he has inherited a problem and must solve it, with the government’s full support.
This rare display of leadership, accountability, and action deserves commendation.

Governor Otti did not just come to inspect—he engaged directly with students, walking through the hostels, speaking with them, and assuring them that their welfare remains a top priority.
