Ekiti State University (EKSU) has officially dismissed nine staff members for reasons related to “indiscipline and impunity.” Additionally, three employees were terminated for abandoning their posts, while one individual was let go due to sexual misconduct.
The university also issued warnings to 21 individuals for various infractions and imposed a three-year ban on three others from holding any positions of responsibility within the institution.Prof. Joseph B. Ayodele announced these figures during the 29th Vice Chancellor’s Convocation Press Conference held at the Senate Chamber, Glass House in Ado-Ekiti.
He indicated that approximately 200 students are expected to graduate with first-class honors.During his address, Prof. Ayodele reported that 16 junior non-teaching staff members were promoted, along with 209 senior non-teaching staff. Additionally, six academic staff members advanced to professorial ranks, five were promoted to Readers, and 40 lecturers and senior lecturers received promotions.
This year’s convocation is particularly special, as it marks the first ceremony I will attend as a substantive Vice Chancellor.
A total of 16,446 graduates from the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions will be awarded diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, and advanced degrees,” he stated.Prof. Ayodele further detailed the breakdown of graduates, noting that 5,406 will earn second class upper division, 9,076 will graduate with lower division, and 1,295 will receive passes.For higher degrees, 162 are set to receive PhDs, 242 will earn master’s degrees, and 61 will obtain postgraduate diplomas.In addition, the university plans to confer honorary doctorate degrees upon three distinguished figures in Nigeria: Senate Leader Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, Dr. Zach Adedeji, Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, and Dr. Mansur Muhtar, Chairman of the Bank of Industry Board.
