The Kano State Government, dissatisfied with previous court rulings, has filed an appeal and has made constitutional claims against the adjudication.The legal battles stem from the controversial dethronement of Aminu Ado Bayero, the former Emir, under a law that also reinstated Sanusi. Amidst these tensions, both emirs have plans to celebrate the annual Ramadan horse riding festival, raising concerns about potential unrest.
The Kano State Police have vowed to maintain peace, but local residents fear that the conflicting ceremony plans signal instability.
Notably, Sanusi has recently inaugurated a new district head for Bichi, which is perceived as a move to solidify his authority and reaffirm the dismissal of Nasir Ado Bayero, Aminu’s brother, who had been appointed in the previous administration. Despite earlier disruptions, Sanusi’s installation of the new district head proceeded.
