Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, the Director General (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to providing all Corps Members with comprehensive healthcare throughout their service year. Acknowledging the various risks and health hazards Corps Members face during their national service, he emphasized the importance of implementing a robust health package to address their needs as they arise.
General Nafiu made these statements during a visit to the office of Dr. Kelechi Ohiri, the DG and Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), in Abuja.
He described health insurance as a key component of NYSC operations and highlighted the NHIA as a vital partner in initiatives related to Corps Members.During the meeting, he stressed the necessity of enhancing the collaboration between NYSC and NHIA to better support Corps Members in their service to the nation.

The welfare and health of our Corps Members are of utmost importance to us at NYSC. We aim to strengthen our existing relationship to benefit our Corps Members,” he said. General Nafiu also expressed gratitude to the NHIA DG for their ongoing support and committed to fostering a deeper partnership between the two agencies.In response, Dr. Kelechi Ohiri congratulated General Nafiu on his recent appointment and praised his enthusiasm for Corps Welfare.
He affirmed the NHIA’s readiness to engage in valuable partnerships that provide seamless services to Corps Members. Dr. Ohiri noted that the current collaboration with the NYSC, which involves the allocation of essential human and financial resources, has greatly benefited the Corps Members.
He elaborated on the NHIA’s ongoing reforms, which include revising guidelines and accrediting healthcare providers to ensure compliance across the nation. Dr. Ohiri assured that the NHIA would address any challenges to guarantee that Corps Members receive the healthcare they need. “We will ensure that our Corps Members have access to the required healthcare.
Our joint committee will assess existing challenges and identify critical areas for improvement,” he added.
