Pastor E. A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has officially renamed the RCCG Apapa Family to The Favoured Family.
This change was announced during his second visit to Trinity Towers, the headquarters of the RCCG City of David parish, which oversees the Apapa Family.Accompanied by his wife, Pastor Folu Adeboye, he revealed that the renaming came as a divine instruction aimed at ushering in a new era of grace for the Apapa Family. While preaching from 2 Kings 2:19-24, Pastor Adeboye emphasized the importance of this transformation, likening it to the introduction of salt and a new cruse to signify renewal.
He explained that salt symbolizes God’s restoration of flavor and vitality, the removal of bitterness, the prevention of demonic influences, and the encouragement of rapid progress.

The new cruse, he noted, represents a fresh start, the reclamation of lost glory, and a dedication to reigniting spiritual fervor. “If anyone had once been hot and has grown lukewarm, they will now burn brightly again,” Pastor Adeboye affirmed. As reported, the RCCG Apapa Family has a rich history that dates back to 1991, when it started at Roxy Cinema, Apapa, with around 50 members led by Pastor Tony Rapu. Within five years, the congregation experienced remarkable growth, establishing over 45 parishes both in Nigeria and abroad, supported by a committed team of more than 500 members.
The family’s mission encompasses reaching heaven and encouraging as many people as possible along the way, while nurturing leaders and fostering a community defined by excellence, faithfulness, character, and integrity.
Their aims include evangelism, establishing God’s governance, and creatively expressing their Christian beliefs.Over the years, the RCCG Apapa Family has undergone significant growth and transformation, facilitated by various pastors. After Pastor Tony Rapu, Pastor Eskor Mfon led the expansion of the Apapa Family Churches. Following Pastor Mfon’s passing, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade took the leadership reins. Most recently, on September 1, 2024, Pastor Kayode Pitan succeeded Pastor Iluyomade as the Head of the Apapa Family.
