The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged security agencies to investigate the individuals behind the bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex, which occurred on October 29, 2023.In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, APC’s Rivers State Chairman, Sir Tony Okocha, expressed that the party’s stance on the issue has been validated by recent revelations from Dr. George Nwaeke, the former Head of Service in Rivers State. Nwaeke alleged that the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara was the orchestrator of the attack on the Assembly.
The APC emphasized that, as the third-highest official in the state, Nwaeke’s firsthand account should be considered credible and not mere hearsay.
He claimed that the Governor instructed his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, to execute the bombing in a bid to thwart impeachment efforts by lawmakers associated with Minister Nyesom Wike. Furthermore, Nwaeke stated that he witnessed a financial transaction involving cash handed over to Ehie for the execution of the attack.
The APC reiterated its status as the only significant opposition party in the region, committed to championing the interests of the people of Rivers State and serving as a voice for the marginalized.
According to the party, the revelations from Nwaeke further enhance its reputation as a party of integrity and position it as a credible alternative for the governorship of Rivers State in 2027.
The party called on relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into these allegations and disclose their findings publicly.
APC underscored that verbal assaults against the resigned Head of Service would not deter its commitment to fulfilling its role as an effective opposition and watchdog in society.
