Kogi State’s Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, has accused Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of inciting violence during her homecoming rally in Ihima, Okehi LGA, in violation of existing security restrictions.
Arriving by helicopter to a raucous reception, Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed in a viral video that Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, and former Governor Yahaya Bello were conspiring to assassinate her. Fanwo condemned her statements, cautioning that they had the potential to incite violent confrontations. If supporters of the other key political players had chosen to respond, yesterday could have turned very bloody,” he told TVC on Wednesday.“You are accusing the Senate President, the former governor, and the current governor of plotting your assassination, and you provide detailed descriptions of how this supposedly would occur,” he added. “Such comments are designed to incite her supporters and provoke reactions from the supporters of other political figures.
He emphasized that the Kogi government had previously enacted a ban on political rallies due to security concerns, defending the measure as essential for maintaining law and order.
The government made a prudent choice to avert any crisis,” he stated.Meanwhile, supporters of Akpoti-Uduaghan argue that these restrictions disproportionately target opposition figures. As a vocal critic of the ruling party, the senator has consistently clashed with the state leadership, with tensions continuing to rise as the next electoral cycle approaches.
