During its 28th convocation, Lagos State University, Ojo, will confer First Class degrees to a total of 192 graduates.
This announcement was made by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello during a press briefing held on Thursday at the university’s Senate building, as part of the convocation festivities.Prof. Olatunji-Bello indicated that this ceremony represents her fourth consecutive celebration as Vice-Chancellor of the institution. She shared, “Out of the 8,711 students graduating from the University with first degree programmes, 192 achieved First Class honours, while 17 received Unclassified (MBBS/BDS) Degrees. Additionally, we have 3,076 graduates with Second Class Upper Division, 4,397 with Second Class Lower Division, 990 with Third Class, and 39 with a pass.
She further expressed her pride in announcing that NWOSU ISIOMA SYBIL from the Biochemistry Department, with a CGPA of 4.93, is the overall best graduating student for the 2023/2024 academic session.
In total, 2,235 postgraduate students will also graduate, with 302 receiving postgraduate diplomas, 1,132 earning academic master’s degrees, 639 obtaining professional master’s degrees, 125 achieving doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, and 37 acquiring professional doctoral degrees.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that in addition to the 162 doctoral degree awardees, the university will honor two distinguished Nigerians with Honorary Doctorate degrees: Brigadier General Buba Marwa (retd), Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and former Military Governor of Lagos State, as well as Otunba Olufemi Olusegun Pedro, a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State. Both have made significant contributions to the development of the university and the nation.Finally, she announced that the esteemed academic Professor Joseph Abayomi Olagunju will be elevated to the rank of Distinguished Professor.
