On April 3, 2025, two brothers, John Abugu (43) and Kenneth Abugu (31), were arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) while attempting to smuggle 5kg of cocaine hidden in their suitcases.
They claimed to be traveling to India for medical treatment. Additionally, on March 31, a woman named Ngozi Ogili, 33, was caught carrying 3kg of methamphetamine from Lagos to Abuja, which led to further seizures of synthetic cannabis and other drugs during police operations.
Other notable arrests included Abdullahi Adamu, who was found with codeine syrup and tramadol, and several others involved in drug trafficking across various locations, including Anambra and the Federal Capital Territory.
NDLEA operatives also destroyed significant amounts of cannabis during raids in Cross River State.
