The Federal Government has recently approved the establishment of 8,880 new Primary Healthcare Centres nationwide as part of its Comprehensive Health Sector Renewal Initiative, announced by Vice President Kashim Shettima during the opening of the Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa Trauma Centre at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital.Shettima emphasized the importance of the newly upgraded tertiary institutions specializing in trauma, oncology, and infectious diseases.
He highlighted the government’s investment in the National Health Insurance Scheme and a digital information management system aimed at improving health outcomes through data-driven diagnostics.
The trauma center, he noted, is crucial for emergency interventions, especially in a rapidly urbanizing nation, and he called for collaboration among the public and private sectors in addressing healthcare issues.Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun recognized the center’s significance and reflected on the dire condition of the hospital upon his taking office.
He shared efforts made to improve the facility, including establishing a governing board for better management and ensuring emergency care for trauma cases, particularly given its proximity to major highways.
The governor reiterated the state’s commitment to providing quality healthcare to residents, emphasizing that access to timely medical services is foundational for a thriving society.
He acknowledged Chief Adegunwa’s philanthropic contributions, which have significantly advanced healthcare services in the region.In turn, Chief Adegunwa expressed his motivation for establishing the trauma center as a way to give back to society in gratitude for reaching his 80th birthday, reinforcing the partnership between his charitable endeavors and the government’s healthcare initiatives.
