**By Nnamdi Akpa, Abakaliki**The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ebonyi State has reported the arrest of 112 individuals on drug-related charges, along with the seizure of 55.947 kilograms of various illicit substances during the first quarter of the year.In a statement signed by State Commander Mr. Peter Ogar, it was revealed that among the arrested suspects, 85 are male and 27 female, with ages ranging from 16 to 76.
This figure includes drug dealers, users, and traffickers, reflecting the agency’s extensive operations conducted across various locations in the state from January to March.Commander Ogar also noted that during this period, four individuals were convicted in drug-related cases. Additionally, the NDLEA provided counseling to 59 suspects, which included 45 males and 14 females, all within the age range of 21 to 76.

In a noteworthy incident, one suspect was apprehended with a locally manufactured pistol.Reiterating the agency’s dedication to combating drug abuse, Ogar emphasized the need for increased support from stakeholders to address this pressing issue.
The NDLEA has organized a series of workshops and awareness campaigns focusing on drug abuse prevention, particularly targeting youth and secondary school students across Ebonyi’s 13 local government areas.
The seized drugs include a variety of substances: monkey tail (11.2 liters/11.2 kg), methamphetamine (0.054 kg), bromazepam (46 tablets, 0.020 kg), pentazocine (84 amps, 0.244 kg), heroin (0.014 kg), and cannabis sativa (43.582 kg), among others. In total, the psychotropic substances amounted to 55.947 kilograms.
